What are the Best ATV Tires in 2023?

After reviewing over 25 sets of ATV tires, we narrowed down our favorites by category: Mud, All Terrain, Pavement, Snow/Slush/Ice, and Trail. The tires below are the 5 that came out on top!

Kenda Bearclaw K299 Mud Tires (Best ATV Tires For Mud)

The Kenda Bearclaw Tires are the undisputed king of deep mud and in our opinion are the finest ATV mud tires. The combination of toughness and durability offers lasting quality, while the outstanding traction and deep tread depth make it top in its class. Throughout both wet trails and dry surfaces, this specialized mud tire keeps its grip and feels soft and comfortable. Unlike all terrain tires, they’re not great for road driving. But, that’s not what they were made for! If you ride your ATV in wet and swampy environments, the Kenda Bearclaw is a must-have ATV tire. We think they are the best ATV Tires for deep mud.

GBC Mongrel ATV Tire (Best All Terrain)

While the GBC Mongrel tire doesn’t specialize in one thing in particular, it’s a great all terrain tire and performs very well in a wide variety of conditions. We like to call it the “Jack of All Trades”. Because of its less aggressive tread pattern, its performance on hard-packed surfaces is very good. And, since the lugs aren’t overly large, the handling is responsive and smooth. With a stand-out 10-ply rating, the tire offers added flexibility for the rider as well. Solid on gravel and sandy terrain, light on mud and rocky surfaces, and responsive on the road, the Mongrel is an investment you won’t regret making if you’re looking for a quality set of All Terrain ATV tires. We think they are the best ATV Tires for All Terrain.

MASSFX KT (Best for Pavement)

MASSFX has been one of the leading brands of ATV tires for decades, and for good reason. They have built trust within the industry for making a high-quality tire that’s long-lasting and performs extremely well. With the KT tires, a unique redesigned tread pattern called the “Side Bite” was introduced. This Side-Bite technology places increased focus on the sidewall resulting in durability and increased puncture protection. We also found the aggressive tread design of these tires allowed us to reach top speeds with no noticeable wiggles. The combination of the Side-Bite redesigned tread pattern along with the superb traction produced by the lug design makes the MASSFX KT tires our go-to tires for paved surfaces. We think they are the best ATV Tires for Pavement.

ITP Cryptid (Best for Snow/Slush/Ice)

While the Cryptid is known for being one of the KT Bearclaw’s closest competitors, we decided to highlight it for reasons other than being awesome in muddy terrain. While it is in fact great in mud, it’s even better on cold and wet surfaces like snow and slush! One thing we noticed is that, similarly to all tires that excel in snow, the tire’s superb grip and excellent traction come at a cost. The handling is somewhat dulled to the construction of the tire, which unsurprisingly is what makes the tire great in other conditions. Still, we thought the ITP was by far the best option for ATV riding in cold-weather conditions such as snow, slush, and ice! We think they are the best ATV Tires for snow/slush/ice.

Carlisle All Trail ATV Tire (Best for Trail)

Ask an off-road ATV enthusiast what their preferred tire is and most will answer with the Carlisle All Trail. Infamous for providing supreme performance in a wide range of terrains and weather, this tire excels on almost every surface, even rocky terrain! Unlike tires that specialize in one condition, the Carlisle All Trail is responsive, stable, and provides a smooth ride due to its large contact patches and its double-tread construction. When it comes to choosing ATV tires for trail riding, we prefer the brand that has a strong reputation for being the best. We think they are the best ATV Tires for trails.

FAQ
What is an ATV?

An ATV is an All Terrain Vehicle. ATVs are designed to be able to drive in a variety of conditions including pavement, trails, swamps, mud, ice, snow, sleet, grass, dirt, gravel, and rocks. ATV owners take pride in being able to traverse a wide variety of conditions and terrain.

Do I need special tires for my ATV?

Not necessarily, however, if you drive your ATV in certain conditions for the majority of the ATV’s life, you should consider buying the best ATV tires designed for these conditions.

What if I have the wrong tires on my ATV?

If you put the wrong type of tires on your ATV, the vehicle will not perform at its peak level. It could even be dangerous to operate the ATV with the wrong type of tires. For example, you would not want to use road tires when operating an ATV in snow or mud, as the ATV will not be able to gain traction and could cause the ATV to slip off the path. We strongly believe you should put the best ATV tires on your ATV.
